It all started on June 21, 2001, when Sam Johnston was invited to play at
the Burtts Corner Lyons Club and needed the assistance of some musicians.
He was joined on stage that night by Bill Stewart, Keith Munn and Deb
Patterson as his backup. It was at that time they decided they wanted to
keep on making music together. At that time they were known as
"The Country 4."
One year later they were joined by a well know musician by the name of John
Jeffries and were now in need of a name change. This group of 5 Fredericton
area musicians pooled their talents together to form the group
"Classic Country."
Performing old and new country music, they have shown their versatility on
various stages through out the area, with their solos, tight harmonies and
instrumentals. They have even been known to throw a little Bluegrass into
the act.
2006 brought another talented musician to the group by the name of Bryce
Brewer. "Classic Country" is now made up of 5 guys and a gal.
Sam Johnston, who has been a solo act most of his career, plays rhythm
guitar and lends his smooth "Mel Tillis" sound to the project when he isn't
adding harmony vocals.
Bill Stewart sings most of the lead vocals with the group and is also an
accomplished guitar player. His smooth singing style
leads you to believe that he has been doing this all his life.
The lady of the group, Debbie Patterson, sings lead and harmony vocals and
plays electric bass with the group. She started her musical career 15
years ago with her brother Duane Pond & the group "Family Reunion."
The insturmentalists of the group are Keith Munn, the mandolin player and
a real crowd pleaser. John Jeffries, who's many talents include lead
guitar, dobro, 5 string banjo, fiddle, and pedal steel guitar. Bryce
Brewer adds his magic to the group with the keyboard.
In March of 2003 "Classic Country" produced a CD entitled "Old Favourites by
Classic Country".
